thief! again! I took the paper figure out on my patio today and tried incorporating a real background. halifax being one of the windiest places I’ve ever been in didn’t make it very easy. i had to tape the whole length of a metal ruler against the back of piece and reinforce it to the wall to get it to stay still enough for the shot.

Catwoman! This is a piece inspired by Frank Miller’s Batman: Year One. That’s my favorite graphic novel of his by far. Seriously, if you haven’t read it- well, it’s perfect. That’s his Catwoman I modelled in the window, and myself as the security guard. As you can see from the wide angle shot, most of my set ups are super sketchy when you see what lies just outside the frame. It’s all fairly spontaneous as well. Sometimes, I’ll draw an outline of what I’m about to build- but for the most part, the cutouts all end up as happy accidents.

Hi everyone! I’ve been so busy lately working on a few other projects that I haven’t had time to make one of these. This one is sort of a combination of a few things. I lovelovelove Dark Souls so I wanted to use the lunging stab motion with the knight. The creepy guy with the axe is derived from one of the infected villagers from Resident Evil 4, and the castle is a reference to Super Mario Bros… the princess is, indeed, in another castle. Enjoy!

I finally got to see Prometheus so it was inevitable that an Alien themed cutout was going to happen. I started going through the series again and ended up with something (sort of) out of Aliens. I used Vasquez for the human figure because she is my favorite and a bonafide badass who went out in the blazes of glory- which seems to be a theme happening throughout these last few. note: I am fully aware that she died in the vents with gorman, but I thought it would be fun to make a different scene where she challenged the queen head on. oh ps- I lit the front of the eggs using a self-timer and a little maglite. enjoy!

It’s October so I made another zombie piece! Just kidding, I would have used zombies again regardless of the month. But I wanted to try something with more dynamic action in it. The zombies here are from Fallout 3 (feral ghoul/same thing), and Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, aaaand a guard from Shadow Complex (if you don’t play video games, that could sound like a zombie game).

This is the full picture of what i was messing around with in the movie poster. I added smoke to the guns some clouds in the sky. The photo was made from black and grey paper that i cut out for the figures, cactus, and the mountain range. I used paper towels for the clouds and cotton for the smoke. the warm light temp is from the modeling lamp on my flash. I used absolutely no photoshop! Not that i don’t love the hell out of it, I just wanted to make something that was totally hands on and less time hunched over a computer! for my back’s sake!
